During pregnancy, mothers usually experience several symptoms that make them feel uncomfortable. One of them is a cold which is characterized by flatulence, no appetite, nausea, and not feeling well. How to deal with colds in pregnant women?

Colds themselves are not known in the medical world and are only a number of uncomfortable symptoms in the digestive tract. To reduce uncomfortable symptoms, here are some ways to deal with colds in pregnant women.

Causes and Symptoms of Colds in Pregnant Women

Colds in pregnant women can be caused by many factors, including hormonal changes, weak body power, and consuming foods that contain gas, such as mango, apple, watermelon, cabbage, green beans, mushrooms, onions, and broccoli.

When pregnant women experience colds, there are several symptoms that appear, namely:

  • Headaches, joint pain, and muscle aches.
  • Nauseous.
  • Vomit.
  • Diarrhea.
  • High fever.
  • chills.
  • Dry cough.
  • Sore throat.
  • Hard to breathe.
  • Nasal congestion and runny nose.
  • Weak body.
  • Bloated.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Frequent urination.
  • Upper stomach pain.

How to Overcome Colds in Pregnant Women

From a medical point of view, colds are not a disease and do not require special medical treatment, including for pregnant women. This condition can be cured with treatment carried out at home. To prevent colds in pregnant women, here are some ways you can do:

1. Consumption of fiber foods

Fiber is useful for smoothing stools so that they are easily removed when pregnant women experience constipation. When constipation occurs, the digestive system will be disturbed, so the gas produced from leftover food will accumulate in the stomach.

Therefore, pregnant women are recommended to eat foods rich in fiber regularly to prevent stomach bloating. Some high-fiber foods that pregnant women need to eat include whole wheat bread, papaya, vegetables, and whole grains.

2. Meet the needs of body fluids

To prevent digestive disorders, such as constipation, pregnant women are recommended to drink enough water, which is 8-10 glasses every day. Constipation or difficulty defecating is usually marked by flatulence.

3. Eat often with small portions

Loss of appetite is one of the problems that are often experienced by pregnant women. To work around this, pregnant women can eat more often, but with smaller portions. Do this way from the beginning of pregnancy.

In addition, pregnant women need to consume other nutritious foods, such as fruits, especially between main meals. This method can also help meet the ongoing nutritional needs of infants.

4. Eat slowly

When pregnant, avoid the habit of eating too fast. This is because these habits can interfere with digestion. When eating quickly, pregnant women swallow more air with each bite, so that it will fill the stomach with natural gas produced by food. As a result, the stomach becomes bloated.

In addition, eating too fast also puts pregnant women at risk of choking which will harm the mother and fetus. To prevent this, pregnant women should eat and chew food slowly.
